The Second Vice President of the Gambia Football Association Col. Lang Tombong Tamba has revealed that his Association is working on plans of establishing women’s football department in the near future.
He added that plans are also underway to strengthen a 12-team first division as the main tournament and further increase the number of amateur sides.
Col. Tamba made this revelation at the FIFA Women’s seminar held recently in The Gambia.
He added that women’s football presents a huge challenge and it is very important that it is given the same opportunities open to the men’s game.
“I would like to appeal to the members of the business community as well as private individuals to invest in female football” he said.
He revealed that GFA has set aside an ambitious development plan for the future of women’s game between now and 2012 and the primary objective of the gender friendly programme is to see the female national teams compete in the CAF and FIFA sanctioned competitions.
Mr Tamba finally thanked the course Directors Ben Koufie and Bailly Marie- Paule for their impressive track record in football administration and for their time in making the historic event a success.
