Musa King and Mam Keweh Ceesay are two Gambian athletes that returned home recently after the successful completion of their six-year training programme in Cuba.
The duos were sent by The Gambia government under the Cuban scholarship to study Physical Education and Sports Coaching for the stipulated period of six years.
Speaking at a press conference last night, Musa King and Mam Keweh described their six-year sting in Cuba as a resounding success. “The training course was a very successful. We were academically prepared during the period and we’re finally back home to disseminate the knowledge gained in Cuba,” the duo said in a joint statement.
They thanked the Cuban government for their assistance to not only The Gambia but the African continent as whole. “Cuba is annually giving more than 72 scholarships to African nationals around the continent, all geared towards assisting the third world continent,” they said.
Musa King and Mam Keweh Ceesay were all national athletes before their departure for studies. A graduate of Gambia Senior Secondary School, Musa King started to hit the limelight in athlete while at Gambia High. Immediately he graduated, King was grasped by the Gambia Athletics Association. He represented The Gambia at several continental athletes championship before his subsequent move to Cuba.
Just like Musa King, Mam Keweh was also an eye-catching sprinter for The Gambia after her graduation from Muslim Senior Secondary School. In addition to her dexterity in the track events, Keweh was also a sounding shot putter before her departure for Cuba.
The duo said in a joint statement that: “We are back to give back to our nation. We are ready to make a breakthrough and with determination and commitment our goals shall be achieved. For Mam Keweh, she wants to see more female participation in the trade of athletics.
