Following Kanifing Fire Accident

Following the Kanifing Estate fire outbreak, which left 18 victims including seven deaths, the Serekunda West Sports Committee have decided to cancel their 2006 nawettan league final.

According to the Chairman of Serekunda West Sports Committee, Musa Mendy, some of the players of one of the finalist team, Kanifing Estate FC, lost their life in the accident. He added that with that sad situation no body could think of playing football as the reason they have decided to cancel the league final between New Jeshwang United and Kanifing Estate FC.

Mr. Mendy added that they would be organising a charity match on Sunday 19th November 2006 between New Jeshwang United and the League Winners in Serekunda East Zone namely Juventus FC of Tallinding at the Serekunda West Mini-Stadium.

“The money raised from that match would be donated to the victims of the Kanifing Fire accident,” Mr. Mendy concluded.
