The ongoing treason trial filed by the state against Tamsir Jassey, Alieu Jobe, Omar Keita and Honourable Demba Dem, yesterday resumed before Justice Avirl Yeboah of the High Court.
Four state witnesses Omar Sey, Sergeant Dam Jobe, Corporal Ajuma Camara and Lamin Colley testified.
In his testimony, Ousman Sey an Islamic teacher said on March 20 2006, Alieu Jobe came to his compound in Sinchu Alagie at night and asked him if he knew what was happening in the country and he replied in the negative. “Alieu Jobe told me that some soldiers wanted to stage a coup but it had failed. I asked him who the officers involved were. He told me it was led by Colonel Ndure Cham and other officers”, Mr Sey stated.
According to Ousman, while he was talking to Mr Jobe, he (Mr Jobe) “received a phone call and he drove off his vehicle and told me, we shall talk later”.
He added that on March 21 2006 , Alieu Jobe called him again saying he wanted to see him. “When I asked him about Colonel Ndure Cham, Mr Jobe told me that Colonel Cham ran away and put off his phone”, Mr sey went on.
According to him, Alieu Jobe told him to come to his compound after school which he did. Mr Jobe then revealed to him that he had had a sleepiness night because of the problems. “I told him if you are not involved, you need not worry. Mr Jobe then told me that most his friends had been arrested”, he revealed.
In his testimony, Dam Jobe, a staff sergeant said on March 21 2006 he was on duty at the 1st Infantry Battallion in Yumdum. According to him, his superior Lt Savage asked him whether he knew the residence of Captain Y M S Darboe and that he replied in the negative.
Staff Sergeant Jobe, added that he was told to accompany one of the drivers who knew Captain Darboe’s residence.
“Upon my arrival at his residence, I met his wife who told us that her husband was out. I then handed a bunch of keys of the Amoury to her and told her to surrender the keys to her husband when he had come back home”, he said.
According to him, on his arrival at the base, Lt Savage called and spoke to Captain Darboe himself who comfirmed that he had received the keys from his wife.
Corporal Ajuma Camara, attached to the 1st Infantry Battallion said on March 21 2006, he was posted at the Abuko Earth station as a Guard Commander. He said on the March 20 2006, before the Magrib prayer, Captain Wassa Camara came to the Abuko Earth Station and asked for one Mr Njie, the International Operation Manager.
“I ordered one of my guards to escort him to the operator on duty who was one Mr Colley”, he revealed.
According to him, Captain Wassa Camara drank “attaya” with them before he left. He came back the following day asking for the same person.
Corporal Camara further narrated that he escorted Cpt Camara to the operators office, where one Lamin Colley called Mr Njie on the phone and that Capatian Wassa Camara then spoke to him on the phone. In his evidence, Lamin Colley, an operator at the Abuko Earth station confirmed that Cpt Wassa Camara came there on March 20 and 21 2006 asking for Mr Njie.
According to him, he called Mr Njies on his cell phone and handed over the phone to Cpt Wassa Camara and they had a brief conversation. The trial was adjourned to next Wednesday.
