UK anti-racism body offers help to Gambian players

A UK football anti-racism organisation based in London – Kick It Out – has offered to provide support to alleged racially abused Gambian players in Scotland after learning about their alleged racial abuse torment through newspaper reports, officials of the organisation said on Wednesday.
"The assistance we would offer is to make sure they put everything in writing so that it can always be refereed to. We also offer support to the team and help them from their next stages to make sure they understand the protocol of reporting racism. The league has a level of awareness around the issues of racism. So they understand people will complain of racism and want to know how it’s been dealt with," Leon Mann, spoke person for Kick It Out told Observer Sports. Meanwhile, according to Mr. Mann, they still have not got in contact with the two Gambian players yet to discuss the alleged racial abuse though they have sent message out to the players. "But we haven’t heard from the players themselves yet. Am not sure why this is. May be the message has not gotten through to them. We wanted to make sure they hear of our offer through the media so as to offer other players in similar situations about our campaign," he explained. According to earlier newspaper reports, Ousman Sonko, one of the alleged racially abused players, has put the incident behind him. Author: Written by Alieu Badara Mansaray
