Ya Eli Harding, Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service, on behalf of President Yahya Jammeh yesterday donated a brand new truck to the Gambia Prisons Service, at a ceremony held at State House.

Speaking at the presentation, Secretary-General Ya Eli Harding, said the donation will ease the mobility constraints of the Prisons Department.

On a word of caution, Secretary- General Ya Eli Harding told the beneficiaries to go all out to maintain the vehicle.

According to her, President Jammeh is doing his best to make sure that all the security institutions are given the resources they require to work effectively. He urged the Prisons Department to measure up to expectation.

For his part, Ousman Sonko, Secretary of State for the Interior, said this timely donation is a clear manifestation of the Gambian leader’s continues support for the security units. He said the truck will reduce the transportation problems of the Prisons Department.

He urged the beneficiaries to exercise extra care in handling the truck.

According to him, most of the times vehicles have been provided to the security services, but due to the lack of maintenance they do not last long. He called on the Director-General of Prisons to make the optimum use of the vehicle, and for its required purpose.

In his vote of thanks, David Colley, Director- General of Prisons thanked President Jammeh for the kind gesture, and then noted that they will live up to expectations.

The ceremony was attended by Heads of Service Chiefs.
