Altinisa Import and Export, a Swedish-Gambian based company, on Saturday donated brand new theatre equipment, plus other medical items to Sukuta Health Centre, at a presentation ceremony held at the Health Centre’s ground.
The D300,000 worth of donation was made possible by Hon Nisse Newman and his spouse, Tina Nisse, through his Gambian counterpart, Saikou Jarju.
Presenting the items, Saikou Jarju, Financial Director of Altinisa Import and Export, said the link between the health and the company started in November, 2006, following a visit by the couple to The Gambia.
Mr. Jarju said: “The company decided to give Sukuta Health Centre a helping hand, with the objective of giving it a permanent priority for all assistance coming to the country from the company”.
“This intends to enable all members of the community to have all the necessary needs at their disposal,” he noted.
Mr. Jarju informed the gathering that the National Inter-departmental Sport Association (NISA), Sukuta Jola Kunda Nursery and Bajiran Nursery School have been identified for the support.
For his part, Hon Newman, who is the Managing Director of Altinisa Import and Export, expressed their willingness to be associated with Gambian communities, especially in the area of Education and Health.
He commended Brio Lek Oler, Brio Lek Oseum and Welsingborgs Companies in Sweden for making the initiative possible.
Receiving the items, Aunty Sally Savage, Officer-in-Charge at the Sukuta Health Centre, expressed gratitude to the couple and said the donated items came at a time, when the Health Centre’s theatre was lacking some major equipment. She assured that the equipment and other medical items will be put into practicaluse for the benefit of the people.
Other speakers at the ceremony included Malang Jammeh, a member of the Divisional Health Management Team, and one Modou Cham.
