Kabba Ceesay, agent for Wallidan goalkeeper, Joseph Gomez, has revealed to Observer Sports that the French giants, Paris Saint German, are still interested in the Gambian youngster despite his premature return from the club owing to an ankle injury he sustained during the first week of his trials in France.
Joseph Gomez should have had a two-week trial with PSG, but his hope was dented by an ankle injury that forced him back home after less than one week of his stay.
However, Kabba Ceesay insists the goalkeeper still has a future with the club. “Joe was rated above 80 percent during his short trials with the club and that is a positive rating. Now the club is looking forward to seeing his performance in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. They want to see whether he will prove consistency in his performance,” said Kabba Ceesay who believes the goalkeeper’s injury is too minor to hinder his Canada appearance.
He added: “Joe is currently responding to treatment at RVTH and he will surely be fit for the Canada finals.”
Peter Bonu Johnson, head coach of the Gambia U-20 team, is also optimistic that Gomez, who was voted the most outstanding keeper in the Congo U-20 Championships, could recover before the Canada finals.
However, sources close to his doctors informed Observer Sports that the Canada finals may be too near for the injured keeper Gomez to fully recover. “Joe is yet to resume training and the Canada Championship is just around the corner. His chance of getting fit for the tournament is very slim and I see no reason why Bonu Johnson should select him if he is not fully recovered,” the source said.
