The newly appointed head coach of Gambia Scorpions, Spanish Jose Martenez, has breezed into the country ahead of Gambia’s crucial Nations’ Cup qualifier campaign against Guinea, Observer Sports can reveal.

Jose Martenez, who arrived on Tuesday, is set to deliver his first assignment in Gambia’s make-or-break match which is away at Guinea June 3.
The Scorpions lost to Syli Nationales 2-0 in the first-leg encounter played in Banjul and will admittedly need a win to keep their hope of making their first-ever appearance in the highest   continental tournament alive.

The Scorpions currently lie third in the Group 8 table which has Algeria on top spot with 7 points and Guinea second with 4 points. The Scorpions are level in points with Cape Verde with the latter enjoying a considerable goal difference.

Meanwhile, the Gambia Football Association has announced that arrangements are being made to get the invited foreign legion into the country to join, in camp, coach Jose Martenez and invited home-based players.
