Assembly Speaker, others in Libya

Mrs. Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, Speaker of the National Assembly, on Sunday June 17 2007, led a high-powered delegation from the National Assembly on a five-day visit to Tripoli, Libyan Arab Jamahirriya.

Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay is accompanied by Honourable Adam Cham, National Assembly Member for Kombo North, Honourable Lamin K Jammeh, member for Illiasa and Ms Fatoumatta Bah, Protocol Officer, Office of the Speaker.

According to reports from the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay and the delegation are special guests of her Libyan counterpart, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament.

During their five days visit, Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay and the delegation are expected to discuss with their Libyan counterpart bilateral issues concerning the two National Assemblies.

In a similar development, Honourable Mohammadou M5 Jallow, National Assembly Member for Upper Fulladu, recently returned from Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday 27 May 2007, where he attended the Common Wealth Parliamentary Association/WTO Regional Workshop for African parliamentarians.

The workshop which was held from 29 to 31 May was meant to foster greater understanding.

The forum also enabled parliamentarians to discuss and communicate their concerns to WTO officials with regards to the effects of WTO policies on their respective countries.

The role of trade in fostering development was among the items discussed.
