Tyga Squad Band Storms Gambia

A three-member delegation representing Tyga Squad Band, a musical outfit based in Sweden, is currently in the country as part of efforts to explore opportunities in the Gambia’s music industry as well as to promote cultural exchanges with their Gambian counterparts.

The delegation which includes two Gambian music impresarios Mr. Joseph P Decker alias Tyga Man and Mr. Demba Ndure is led by Ms Jilly Jonasson, Manager of NITE LIFE, a cultural, musical, non profit organization seated in Gothenburg, Sweden whose aim is to give support to various aid projects in Africa.  

Speaking to this reporter on Thursday, Joseph P Decker alias Tyga Man, the lead Vocalist for the band said that the chief purpose of their visit is to explore opportunities in the music arena as well as to work out modalities  of starting  a project in the area of sports  for female students in The Gambia. He revealed that the band is also planning to participate in the next Roots Homing Coming Festival. He said that they are also poised to have exchange visit programmes with cultural groups in the Gambia.

 Talking about the Tyga Squad Band, Mr. Decker said the band is composed of thirteen members from The Gambia, Sweden and Jamaica. He further revealed that some of their band members have been travelling with big name artistes like Maikel Jechson all over the world. He said that they have staged more than fifteen shows since the formation of the band   in 2003. “The band is very famous in Sweden,” he said.

For her part, the Manager of NITELIFE said that her organisation is determined to provide job opportunities for unemployed youths, adding that they are also out to fight against cultural segregation thereby promoting cultural best practices through music.

They called on the general public to give them the necessary support in their quest to positively contribute towards the socio, economic and cultural development of The Gambia.
