Cross Party Committee Established

A new body called Committee of Concerned Politicians (CCP), has recently been set up. The committee, comprising politicians from diverse political backgrounds, is reportedly driven by the overriding aim of implanting and encouraging dialogue and reconciliation among political interests in the country.

According to a press release made available to this paper, the committee member are: Momodou Shyngle Nyassi as Chairperson; Modou Lamin Touray, Spokesman; Fabakary Jarjue, Treasurer; Pa Manneh, Secretary; Musa Jeng, Kalifa Jatta , Pa Sainey Jallow, Dullo Bah and Bakary BT Sanneh as members.

According to the release the aims and objectives of the new committee include, among others:

To unify all opposition parties under one strong force or umbrella

To promote civic and political awareness among the electorate

To act as an advisory body to the citizenry in the efforts to ensure protection of the constitution and respect for the rule of law

To encourage electoral exercise among citizens by sensitizing on the importance of elections as tool for system change

To break all forms of discrimination ranging from racism, tribalism and sectionalism and to stand by colleagues by way of legal aid in times of crises, so as to discourage or forestall all forms of intimidation, maltreatment and unwarranted arrests and detentions.
