17 foreign legends invited-Ahead of Gambia-Algeria match

Seventeen foreign-based players have earned a call-up for Scorpions final Group Eight tie in the 2008 Nations Cup qualifier against Algeria. This decisive fixture is scheduled for Sunday, September 9, in Banjul. While most of the invitees have played for Scorpions during the last two outings, some new faces have however, been included in the list. Belgian-based forward Ebrima Sawaneh and U-20 duo: Ousman Jallow and Ebrima Sohna have all been called-up for the first time, while suspension forced both Skipper Ebou Sillah and Dawda Bah on the sideline. The September encounter is a make-or-break cracker for the Scorpions who are eyeing for the first-ever Nations Cup berth. The Gambia will need at least a 3-goal victory against the visitors and hope that Guinea slip to Cape Verde in Conakry. Group Eight remains the most confused group among the lots with all the four teams (Gambia, Algeria, Cape Verde and Guinea) having the chance to finish on eight points. And with the three best losers already known, only one side now stands the chance to qualify from the group-of-death that currently has the Syli Nationales of Guinea as leaders on 8 points with Algeria trailing them by a goal difference. The Gambia also enjoys a considerable goal advantage over Cape Verde with both sides having five points in the bag. The list of invited foreign-based players Name Club Country 1.
