Lieutnant Seedy Baldeh, coordinator of Kanilai Farms, has appealed for more hands to help accelerate the harvesting process at the president’s farms.

The Kanilai Farms’ coordinator was speaking to the Daily Observer, over the weekend, at one of the largest farms of President Jammeh in the Fonis, his Jiramba rice field.

Lieutnant Baldeh revealed that an eight-kilometer millet farm of the president remained unharvested, while another 45 hectare rice field, which is also in Jiramba, and other major farms were all due for harvesting.

‘Really,’ he said, ‘we need the support of Gambians, considering the magnitude of farm land we have untouched. We need the support of everybody in order to avoid a very lengthy period of harvesting.’

On his assessment of this year’s farming season, Lt Baldeh said that although bumper harvest was expected in the whole country, the result of that expectation has already been realized in Kanilai.

As a matter of fact, he noted that they had already gathered a substantial amount of farm products, adding that more was expected in the coming weeks. He described this year’s season as one of the most successful season so far.

He concluded by indicating that the proceeds realised from the president’s farms go to the Jammeh Foundation for Peace, a charitable organisation tasked with the responsibility of helping  people that need help. In areas like education and health.
