Re-The Point boss condemns slanderers

Editor,

I read with amusement, on your February 12 edition, the article on the latest castigation of what I call ‘cheaque-book-journalism’. I take that condemnation as the latest move in disowning these bunch of hooligans hellbent on selling the integrity of The Gambia at all cost.

There is no country in the world without some sort of problems; be it in Africa, America, or Europe; every country has their unique problems. The genuineness of our urge for resolutions as well as the manner we yearn for redress, determine our chance of success.

Instead of attacking issues, our blood brothers resort to attacking not only personalities, but also state institutions, holding the entire nation to ransom. Respect for leadership is a key value in this respectable and tolerant society of ours.

Therefore, manifestations of these ‘internet fraud-stars’ are totally alien to our society. After all, there is absolutely no need for the level of complaint these people’s style of redress suggest.

I therefore call on all peace loving people to distance themselves from this treacherous practice, and employ better ways of expressing feelings.

Democracy is not at all about infringing on other people’s rights, as we seem to be interpreting it. Rather, it is about accommodating each other for the good of all.
