The 2008 First Division league season will start today with the Super Cup final between the FA Cup Champions, Gambia Ports Authority and the League title holders, Real de Banjul.

The fixtures for the league proper, which will start on Sunday, February 24, are out and the final number of teams has been finalised.  Steve Biko and Sea View finished at the bottom of the league in the last season and faced relegation to the Second Division. Hoping to change all that - the duo now have their hopes restored - thanks to the expansion of the ten-team league to twelve.  The two sides will, however, hope that they do not repeat last season’s flop.

Samger and Interior have bounced back to the top flight after years of struggle in the lower league. Will the newcomers gun for the league title? Certainly no. I think they should instead fight and maintain their positions just for this season.
