Thursday, April 10, 2008

The principal of Armitage Senior Secondary School, Mr. Ebrima Joof has urged his students to redouble their efforts and study intensively as they are preparing for their exams in May this year.

Mr. Joof made this statement in an interview with The Point in his office recently. Mr. Joof stressed that a redefinition of quality education is needed as it goes beyond simply learning where achievements are measured by the best scores. He further explained that a safe and healthy learning environment is essential for students to be able to achieve academic excellence and for their general wellbeing also. He added that most students fail in their exams as a result of parents or guardians failing in their responsibilities and students failing to take charge of their responsibility to read, study and work hard. He added that the Department of State for Education (DOSE) has provided learning and teaching materials for them to use. He asserted that education is a way to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing society and requires diligence, discipline, hard work and steadfastness. He advised his students to consider their books as their friends and forget about beach parties and fun times for now so as to maximise their potential in order to achieve their educational goals.
