13 Back Way Route Suspects Remanded

No fewer than 13 suspected would-be illegal Migrants were on Thursday 25thSeptember 2008 remanded in custody at the Mile II State Central prison until the next adjourned date.

The 13 suspects were arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate John Njie charged with prohibiting of trafficking, intermediating for the purpose of trafficking, and concealment of trafficking.

On count one, the offence revealed that on 17thAugust 2008 at TanjiVillage the accused persons received the sum of M5.5CFA for the purpose of trafficking people across the border.

Count two, the particulars of the offence stated that on 17thAugust 2008 at Tanji village the accused persons participated in the transportation of people for the purpose of trafficking them across the border.

While on count three, the particulars of the offence disclosed that on 17thAugust 2008 at TanjiVillage having information on suspected migrants failed to inform the relevant authorities.

Only two accused persons out of the 13 pleaded guilty to the charges. The case was adjourned to 29thSeptember 2008.
