Thursday, April 16, 2009
Basiru Gassama has joined scores of Gambians to congratulate the Gambian U-17 team who won the gold medal in the just concluded African Under 17 Championship hosted in Algeria.

The outspoken politician-cum-sports enthusiast has told Observer Sports that the Baby Scorpions’ heroic display in the Algeria finals gives him the strong conviction that they will bring the junior World Cup in Banjul when they participate in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria later this year. “After seeing what they did in Algeria, I have no doubt that they will bring the World Cup from Nigeria,” Gassama told Observer Sports.

The Sun Beach Hotel chief security manager also expressed praise for the sports-loving Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, whom he described as the team’s main source of inspiration.
