Boost for GOVI

The District Grant Lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia, a charitable organisation involving both Sierra Leoneans and Gambians on Tuesday 26th May 2009 presented a cashamounting to D13,375 to Gambia Organisation for Visually Impaired (GOVI).

The gesture is part of their contribution towards the welfare of blind people in The Gambia.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the GOVI Resources Centre in Kanifing, the president of GOVI, Muhammed Corra, hailed the donors for the gesture. He added that the money will go a long way in assisting the organisation in their endeavours to realise their dreams and aspirations.

He stated that this kind of gesture is first of its kind by the donors.

Corra expresses their readiness in improving the lives of blind people in The Gambia.

He further stated that GOVI would work hard to help blind people in The Gambia have access to education and contribute their quota to the development.

Speaking earlier, the Grand Master of District Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone and the Gambia, Dr. Victor Robenson Willoughby, expressed delight for visitingGOVI. He commended them for their tremendous contribution towards the development of blind people in The Gambia.

Dr. Victor expressed his organisation’s willingness in supporting GOVI in many years to come. He assured them of a long-term relationship between district grand lodge Sierre Leone and The Gambia and GOVI.

The First Secretary of Sierra Leone High Commission in Banjul, Mrs. Famata E. Kargbo, applauded district grand lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia for their contribution toward the development of unfortunate people in The Gambia particularly the blind people.

Receiving the money, national treasurer GOVI, Gaira Lamin, assured the donors that money received will be properly put into good use.

The presentation ceremony was witnessed by members of GOVI executives, pupils and teachers of GOVI School for the Blind and other important dignitaries.
