Sulayman Ndow, a driver charged with causing the death of one Fatou Secka John in a fatal car accident, on Monday appeared before the Bundung Magistrates Court presided over by Acting Principal Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara.
When the case was called, Sulayman Ndow told the court that he wished to engage the services of a counsel before taking his plea. Police Prosecutor Sergeant 1042 Kujabi, at that juncture, applied for the accused to be denied bail. According to Prosecutor Kujabi, investigations into the matter are still ongoing and the accused, if granted bail, might tamper with the investigation.
The prosecutor further told the court that the owner of the vehicle which was involved in the accident had left the jurisdiction. He also express fears that granting the accused bail might allow him to flee.
Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara however overruled the application and granted Ndow bail in the sum of 500,000 with two Gambian sureties, one of whom must deposit the title deed of a property located within the Greater Banjul Area with the court registrar. The case was then adjourned to April 6.
