Friday, July 17, 2009

Grounds are set for the 2009, Gambia Football Association Gamtel sponsored FA Cup Final, this Sunday 19th July 2009, between Telecommunication Boys Gamtel FC and Young Africans of Hadington Street in Banjul, at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium at 4.30 PM.

The most awaited final match will attract significant dignitaries, GFA officials, members of the press and football fans across Serrekunda East and its surrounding areas.

Young Africans who overcome reigning league champions Armed Forces and the defending FA Cup champions Wallidan in the preliminaries and quarter-final stage, respectively, will come all out for victory after disappointed performance in the just ended GFA 2nd Division League.

Gamtel FC, who are yet to clinch the FA Cup championship in their history will do everything possible to ensure that they win the final match.

It could be recalled that Young Africans had made it to the final, after edging out Africell FC 6-5 in the post-match penalty kick-out in the semi-final, following their 0-0 draw in the regular time of play.

Young Africans FC booked their ticket to the final, following their 4-2 win over Bakau United in the post-match shooting in the semi-final after 0-0 draw in the 90th minute.

Tickets for the final are pegged at D25.00 and D10.00 for covered pavilion and uncovered pavilion, respectively.

“We want to see the success of the event, promotion of Wheelchair Basketball and showcase our potential.

“We are still looking for support, but already Gambega, BCC, Gamwater and Sankung Sillah have shown their support towards the event,” Colley stated.

Meanwhile, the Gambia National Paralympic Committee boss also revealed that the British Embassy has donated 12 wheelchairs for the basketball team and commended them for the gesture.
