A serious fire outbreak last Saturday consumed over 18 houses in two extended family compounds at Boiram in the Lower Fulladou West, Central River Region, Daily Observer can reveal.

The compounds belong to Saho Surr, Mod Horja Surr, Teggah Boye, Mbackeh Boye and Adda Satou Boye According to reports reaching this paper from CRR, the fire started at around 10:00 am, Saturday, at a time when most of the villagers were off to the weekly markets (Lumo) in Brikama-ba.

“Due to the absence of most of the villagers, as most men where away at the weekly market, the fire was not easy to contain. The fire started moving speedily due to the heavy wind at the time, thereby ravaging all the houses within that area,” Malick Boye, a resident of the village told the Daily Observer.

According to Malick Boye, none of the properties were from the burnt down compounds were salvaged.  He said their groundnut harvest - rice, coos, millet - as well as cloths and other valuable materials, were all burnt to ashes. Reports also have it that two cows belonging to Teggah Boye,  also perished during the fire incident as the fire engulf the grazing area where they were tied.

The families of the two compounds are therefore seeking assistance from government, philanthropist and NGOs. Anyone who wishes to help them can contact Malick Boye at State House on 9804050, Mam Ngorr Boye on 9990914 or Alhagie Sainey Boye, the Imam of Boiram on 9992925.
