Friday, February 6, 2009
Four youths were yesterday arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with two counts of arson and unlawfully setting fire on the house of Kebba Bojang, the alkalo of Jambur village in Kombo South, Western Region.

Momodou Gassama, Nuha Darboe, Momodou Bojang and Foday Bojang are alleged to have set fire on the house of the village Alkalo, on 31st January of this year.

All of them denied the charges.

Lawyer Badou Conteh, defending the accused persons, argued that the arson charge on his clients was not right and instead should have been ‘willful damage to property’.Inspector Samateh, prosecuting, maintained that any person who commits such type of offence should be charged with arson.

However the presiding magistrate, Pa Harry Jammeh, said that having listened to both sides he was satisfied that the charge was appropriate.

Meanwhile the case was adjourned to the 10th February 2009.
