The Gambia Youth Actors Association (GAMYAA) last Saturday elected new executive  members of the association at their first general assembly meeting, held at the Kanifing Municipal Council chambers.

Formed this year, GAMYAA seeks to promote Gambian culture through acting. Speaking at the ceremony, Momodou Joof, the director of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), said the “movie industry is now becoming a significant sector in the development of any nation”. Joof further emphasised that Gambian youths are full of skills and talents and therefore called on them to exploit these talents.

For his part, George Gomez, the executive director of the National Olympic Committee (GNOC), said GAMYAA should be commended for taking the bold initiative to contribute their quota towards the country’s socio-economic development through acting. “All organisations at the start face some challenges, but continue the hard work and you will overcome the challenges on the way,” he said. The new executive is headed by Mati Jobe, as president.
