GFA Inter Academy Kicks-off

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

The Gambia Football Association organised Inter Academy Football tournament got underway last week in different venues across the country.

All participating teams ranging from U-13 and U15 categories are so far demonstrating a high sense of discipline and maturity.

The latest fixture could be descried as a titanic encounter when Jatta’s FC of Brikama suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tallinding. The second game that was expected to feature Sohna’s academy could not hold following the withdrawal of Abuko Academy.

The U-15 category is also producing some wonderful and exiting moment of brilliant academy football.

KOKO academy of Serrekunda West entertained Boys United Football Academy of Jeshwang to a hard-fought 1-0 win as part of the rescheduled game, played at the Serrekunda West Mini-Stadium on Sunday, while Bala Academy’s game against Fire which was the 2nd rescheduled game ended 2-0 in favour of Fire at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium on Sunday.

Five Academy hope of repeating the same success against Bala proved futile when they suffered a 3-1 defeat in the hands of the opponents.

Boys Academy of Jeshwang and KOKO Academy of Serrekunda West were involved in a dramatic penalty shoot-out which eventually saw KOKO winning the encounter by 4 goals to 3 at the West part.

Madac Academy of Serrekunda West suffered a 1-0 defeat to Ebou- Town in the last game of the inter-academy football tournament, played at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

Earlier in the academy tournament, the Brufut based academies, Gilkock Football Academy and Canaria Football Academy edged out Dahaba Football and Gift Football Academy over the weekend.
