GPA Accident Case Adjourned

Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court has adjourned the GPA car accident case that claimed the lives of both Ebrima Manneh and Lamin Manneh.

The case will now be heard on 28 April 2009.

According to the magistrate, the police prosecutor needed to produce the autopsy report in court as it was “very important to the case”.

The police prosecutor had earlier told the court that he was yet to receive the post-mortem report from the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH).

The suspect Momodou Hadi  Jallow is charged with rash and negligent act causing death and driving a motor vehicle without a license.

According to the prosecutor Cadet Inspector Keita, the accident happened on 6th April 2009 at the Leman and Anglesea Junction in Banjul, when the accused, a conductor (vehicle registration number RC8225RC Renault truck) was asked by his boss to remove the said vehicle away from motor vehicle BJL5263B that was parked on the premises.

He added that as the accused was reversing the vehicle, he lost control and knocked down entered the deceased who were off-loading a container stationed on the said vehicle with registration number BJL 5263B at the time.

According to him, the victims were rushed to the RVTH for urgent medical treatment, “but upon their arrival at the RVTH the victims were pronounced death and the post-mortem was conducted on the victims but the police are yet to receive the result of the post-mortem from the hospital”.
