Imam Momodou Lamin Touray, the president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), is the latest to add his voice to the chorus of indignation vehemently condemning the on-going Israeli invasion of Gaza.

According to the erudite imam, the war in Palestine is of a very serious concern and unfortunate owing to the fact that hundreds of people in that country are being victimized, with the majority of them being innocent children and women. He described the cause of the war  as Palestine inability to effectively defend its position, noting that this should not be seen as an advantage for “Israeli immoral invasion.”

This statement by the leader of the Gambian Muslim community came as protest grow around the world over the bumbings that has claimed hundreds of lives of citizens. He was speaking to the Daily Observer, on Monday afternoon, at his office at the council building, located along MDI Road, during an exclusive interview with this reporter.

‘‘This is something very unfortunate in the world. I urge all Muslims around the world to pray for the people of Palestine. There are young children and women who are innocent. So killing them by bombardment is nothing but a deliberate intention of causing havoc. But Almighty Allah is the only one who stands for the innocents and defenceless,’’ the GSIC boss who is also a deputy imam of State House mosque noted.

‘’Muslims all over the world and other human rights supporters should feel the pain and suffering currently hard hitting the Palestinians. All Muslims should raise their voices against the mockery and brutalities of the Israeli,’’ he noted.

Imam Touray then called on governments around the world and the international community to rise against the bombardments in Palestine. He concluded by saying that only urgent and pragmatic actions could avert further destructions.
