GTA Concludes Sub-regional Tourism Sales Blitz

The Gambia Tourism Authority in conjunction with the tourism stakeholders including the Gambia Hotel Association recently concluded a very successful sales blitz in Nigeria, according to a press release from the Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA).

The objective of the campaign which lasted a week, 28th April to 5th of May 2009, was conceived as a follow-up promotional venture with the dual objective of raising awareness of destination Gambia in Nigeria and also to network with airline and tour operators that are keen to sell Gambia as an ideal holiday destination both for the leisure and key business segment.

“This is very crucial to boost sub-regional tourism and makes The Gambia an all year round tourism destination,” the release stated.

“In this regard the group was able to raise awareness at the level of Lagos, where the delegation met over 50 travel writers and tour operators in a highly interactive session and answered key concerns of the Nigerian travel trade in terms of pricing and air connections,” the release added.

It further stated that productive business to business-B2B meetings were held with aviation executives for both Arik Air and Virgin Nigeria - two airlines that are keen to commence operations to The Gambia very soon. Various issues bordering on joint marketing to develop the route were discussed.

The delegation also held key meetings with the tourism authorities of the LagosState, more specifically the Commissioner for Tourism of the Lagos State Government. The Commissioner has expressed keen interest to collaborate with Gambian tourism authorities to boost sub regional tourism.

“To crown it all,” the release continued, “a dinner in honor of Gambian High Commissioner to Nigeria H.E Angela B. Colley, was well attended and the Gambian delegation gave a comprehensive presentation which highlighted Gambian Tourism in the best light possible.

“The support and contribution of all stakeholders in this venture is highly commended and special appreciation goes to Bank PHB for facilitating the movement of the delegation in Lagos, and Top Communications for representation,” the release concluded.
