Inter School Football, Volleyball Reach Tournament Proper

The Secretary-General of the Gambia Secondary Schools Sport Association (GSSSA), Alhagie S. Darboe has disclosed that the ongoing Secondary Schools football and volleyball competition has now reached its peak.

According to Mr. Darboe, Trust Bank is the main sponsor of the Senior Secondary Schools football and volleyball competitions, while Gambia Secondary Schools Sport Association (GSSSA) is also sponsoring the Upper Basic football and volleyball competitions in all the sixth educational regions.

The Trust Bank sponsored prize, Mr. Darboe added, includes the winner of a D10, 000 cash prize and a giant trophy, while the runners-up will bag D6, 000.

The Secondary Schools sponsored prize, is yet to be decided by the GSSSA. Mr. Darboe said the provincial schools will arrive in Banjul today for the final proper and therefore all provincial football teams will be camped at Fifa Goal Project in Old Yundum.

Noting that the volleyball teams will have their camp at Abuko Upper Basic School in the Western Region, he said, sixteen Senior Secondary Schools would partake in the football and volleyball competition proper.

According to him, another sixteen Upper Basic Schools will also take part in the football and volleyball competition proper, which he said shall start tomorrow at different venues within the KMC and Western Region.

Group A Senior Secondary Schools football comprises Gambia SSS, Kaur SSS, St. Peters SSS and Bottrop SSS, while Group B includes Nustrat SSS, St. Augustine SSS, Siffoe SSS and Bansang SSS.

For the volleyball, Group A comprises the following Senior Secondary Schools: Armitage, St. Augustine, Farafeni, St.Francis, while Group B includes the following: Kotu SSS, Bottrop SSS, Gambia SSS and Muslim SSS.

For Upper Basic football, Group A comprises Talinding, Barra/Essau, Kitty and Brikama, while Group B includes the following schools: Greater Banjul, Farafenni, St. Mulumbas and Latri-kunda Upper Basic Schools.

Group A volleyball  teams are, St. Francis, St. Augustine, Anglican and Abuko, while Group B are Kitty, St. George’s, Kombo Kerewan and Bakalar Upper Basic Schools, respectively.
