Jamisa Upper Basic Holds 8th Annual Graduation CeremonyTuesday, August 11, 2009 In his introductory remarks, the Master of the Ceremony, Mr. Lawal underscored the efforts and achievements made by the school, saying that the school has become a force to be reckoned with because of its good performance in grade nine exams, sporting competition and maintenance of satisfactory academic standards and discipline. Delivering his annual report, the Principal of the school, Mr. Batuwo Jaiteh indicated that the academic year under review has been successful as 45% of the 371 candidates, who sat to 2008 grade nine examinations, have gained admission into Senior Secondary Schools. Besides this, he said the candidates have remarkably improved their performance in Science, Agriculture and Islamic studies. He said a student had scored aggregate eight, and that more girls had comparatively done well. He said the school also captured third position during the inter-athletic championship held in April 2009. The Principal also emphasised the need for the active participation and commitment of parents towards the success of the school in reailsing their mission and vision. He finally solicits assistance to help solve the problem confronting the school, such as the lack of science lad, electricity and inadequate classrooms. For his part, the Guest Speaker at the occasion, Mr. Kungkung Jobarteh, who is the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, spoke at length on issues relating to education, discipline and national development. He defined education as a process of instruction and training, especially of young people in schools or other institutions, with the aim of giving them relevant knowledge and skills, as well as the acquisition of moral values. Discipline, Mr. Jobarteh noted, “is the training or reasonable control aimed at producing self-control that let the disciplined person arrived at or chose desire of behaving in giving circumstances.” However, Mr. Jobarteh advised the students to be discipline, study harder and continue their education to the highest levels and never stop at grade 9, and besides learn to become professionals and assets to the nation.
