Kadasa Darboe- An Athlete With Great Talent

Kadasa Darboe is among the most brilliant athletes in the Western Region of The Gambia. She was born in Gunjur in 1992 and she started her athletics career in her teenage years with Gunjur Arabic School. She transferred to Gunjur Lower Basic School in 2001 and there sherepresented the school in many athletics championships in Kombo South. She wasalso part of Western Region team that won 2004 Gambia Lower Basic School Athletics Championship for regions in the country organized by Gambia Lower Basic School Sports Association. She proceeded to Gunjur Upper Basic School in 2006, where she belonged to Samory House who won the trophy both last year and in this year’s Gunjur Upper Basic School inter house athletics championship. Kadasa, a grade nine student, came first in the 100 metres, senior girls’ and 200 metres senior girls’ races and she also started the 4x400 for her house Samory, in which they emerged victorious. Kadasaalso represented her School in Western Region inter schools athletics championship and The Gambia Upper Basic Schools athletics championship and she won a lot of certificates. Her performances have attracted a lot of senior secondary schools in the country including Gambia High School and Kinder DorfBottrop Senior Secondary School. Speaking to Pointsports, Kadasa said she wants to become an international athlete in the future and she commended her principal Mr.Saye, her house masters Sankung Saidy and YusuphaSarujaSaidy, colleagues and sports department of Gunjur Upper Basic School for their encouragement.
