The second phase of the Lamin Jawara Memorial Eco-farm project, initiated by Yankuba Jawara in memory of his late father, was on Sunday inaugurated.

This is a building  comprising a store where women can keep their vegetables and a shop where they can sell their agricultural products. Implemented in Kiang Nema (LRR),   the project was developed through the support of UK philanthropists. Tasked with the responsibility to support the village’s women farmers, the project constitutes an important initiative geared towards achieving food-self sufficiency  in The Gambia.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Alkalo of Kiang Nema, Faba Fadera thanked the philanthropists for the services rendered to the village of Nema. He thanked Yankuba Jawara for initating the project.

For his part, Yankuba Jawara said  the aim of the project is to support the village’s women farmers and also to challenge the rural-urban migration phenomenon. He thanked the philantrophists for their  support in the implementation of the project, noting that the benefit goes to the people of Nema, since the women can use the garden in producing food for family use and also to pay their children’s school fees.

Martin Tanner, a philanthropist from the UK thanked the people of Nema for their collaboration and expressed his delight since the villagers.  He assured them of their continued support. Other speakers at the ceremony included Kemeseng Fadera, Nyimanding Jammeh and Fatou Jawara. They all expressed their appreciation to the project and thanked the initiators of the project.
