Ya Marie Janneh, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Patriotic Students’ Association (NAPSA) has called on Gambian students to "make hay while the sun shines" as the government of The Gambia prioritises girls education.

In an interview with the Daily Observer, the NAPSA spokesperson said girls should make the best use of President Jammeh’s free education for girls' initiative, rather than engaging themselves in picnic, visiting night clubs, or going out to beaches, among other activities not beneficial to them. She urged the students to make use of the golden opportunities given to them, calling on them to burn the mid-night candle and take up the challenges of life if they want to become responsible leaders in future.

She also seized the opportunity to call on parents to advice their children and take strict control over them to prevent them from going to the beach side for swimming and for other purposes that can endanger their lives. "Students should make the best use of their books as they are the future leaders, so that they can contribute their quota to national development in order to ensure that the Silicon Valley of Africa, which our able president advocates for, is achieved," she stated.

Ms Janneh thanked the president of the Republic for his continued support to Gambian students. She also commended the department of State for Basic and Secondary Education for their support, care and concern to the welfare of Gambian students.
