Just days after his surprise visit to the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Banjul, The Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, has donated a consignment of food items, a photocpier and a washing machine to the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the medical school and the Royal Victorial Teaching Hospital.
Accordingly, both the school of Nursing and Midwifery, and the medical school of the University of The Gambia will benefit from the food items, while the photocopier is earmarked for the school of Nursing and Midwifery. All 5 washing machines went to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital. This benevolent gesture, came shortly after the Gambian leader announced the transfer of the schools to his office.
Presenting the items on behalf of the president, Honorable Momodou Kotu cham, the secretary of state for Forestry an the Environment, said the gesture was in response to the constraints highlighted by the authorities and students of the schools during the president’s last visit.
He expressed hope that the donated items would go a long way in complementing the objective of the gesture. Commending the Gambian leader for the generosity, the Forestry and Environment secretary of state urged the beneficiaries to take greater care of the materials. Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dr Mariatou Jallow, secretary of state for Health and Social Welfare, hailed the generosity of the Gambian leader, noting that the gesture was “timely”. Noting that the gesture would go a long way in boosting the moral of the schools, SoS Jallow assured the donor that great care will be giving to the materials. It could be recalled that the Gambian leader, during his surprise visit to the school, donated seven brand new computers, a photographic machine and a brand new pick-up to the institution. President Jammeh had also pledged to construct a modern complex with lecture rooms and administrative offices at the said school.
