Nigerian National Charged with Defilement

One Joseph Ojumwuu a Nigerian National yesterday appeared before principal Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court charged with defilement of a girl under the age of 18.

The particulars of the alleged offence revealed that Joseph Ojukwuu on or about the year 2008 at London corner, the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a girl (name withheld) under the age of 18 years.

When the case resumes, the counsel for the accused, Lawyer Edu Gomez, applied to the court to grant the accused bail, arguing that the offence the accused is charged with is bailable.

He cited certain sections of the constitution to support his application.

The prosecutor Cpl 335 Nying also informed the court that the case file is sent to Attorney General Chambers for legal advice and she is yet to receive the case file.

Prosecutor Nying further told the court that the offence the Accused was charged with, is serious.
