The championship, which features different institutions, is billed for the second week in February 2009.
Saihou B Jarjue, secretary general of Nisa, while speaking in an interview with Pointsports yesterday, stated that it has been the associations plan to include the staging of a basketball tournament and other sporting disciplines but this year they want to commence the basketball competition.
He pointed out that the ultimate objective of the tournament is to bring mutual understanding among the working class, adding that they also wants to promote more female participation.
“The most interesting thing about the tournament is there is no gate fee attached to it and this is to encourage all workers to come forward and form one united body,” he stated
Jarjue also revealed that registration fee for the football competition is still pegged at D6,000.
He noted
that aspiring companies or institutions are also invited to participate
pointing out that the deadline for registration is on
He also seized the opportunity to commend Africell, GPA, and Global Security for their sponsorship of Nisa’s trip to Ziguinchor and commended Nisa’s president, Major General Lang Tombong Tamba, for his support and advice to the association.
According to him, plans are in the pipeline to include basketball and other sporting disciplines in the competition.
It will be recalled that last year the Kanifing Municipal Council were crowned champions of the tournament while The Gambia Armed forces finished as runners-up.
