The National Assembly member for Sabach Sanjal constituency, Honourable Ousman Bah, has appealed to the authorities, notably the Department of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure, to come to the aid of his people by rehabilitating the dilapidated feeder roads in the area.
The Sabach Sanjal NAM was speaking last Wednesday at the National Assembly, during an adjournment debate of the first meeting of the Assembly in the 2009 legislative year. According to Honourable Bah, the main Sabach Sanjal feeder road, built years back, is in deplorable condition. Rehabilitating it, he added, will go a long way in boosting the lives of the people in the area.
He said: “This main feeder road links 90 percent of the satellite villages in the constituency, and among the villages through which it runs include Sabach Nyayen, Tamba Koto, Bambally, Sana Kunda, and Ngayen Sanjal.” In the same vein, the Sabach Sanjal member also appealed to the authorities concerned to also consider allocating a ferry to the river crossing point linking Kani Kunda to Sambang. He emphasised that problems associated with river transport is becoming unbearable for the people in the area. The conditions at the said crossing point, he said, forces commuters to board small, unsafe wooden boats.
“The people at the area are left with no choice but to use small boats, which is very unsafe, especially for the women and children,” he said, reiterating that allocating a ferry would also undoubtedly boost economic activities in the area. Honourable Bah went further to appeal to the Department of State for Agriculture to consider revitalising the Ngayen Sanjal farming centre to enhance agricultural productivity in the area. “The structure currently in place is dilapidated and revitalising it would intensify farming activities in the area,” he posited.
The Sabach Sanjal NAM also had an appeal for the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education, calling on it to upgrade one of the lower basic schools in Sabach Sanjal into a basic cycle as there is no basic cycle in that part of the constituency.
