St. Therese UBS Holds Graduation Ceremony

Monday, July 27, 2009

St. Therese’s Upper Basic school last Friday July 24th held their speech and prize giving ceremony at the Father Farrell Hall in Kanifing.

The event commenced with a staff procession led by the Gambia Police Band.

Reverend Father Sonko and Oustas Abubacarr Dibba, led the opening prayers in their various ways.

The school choir entertained the audience in the hall, which was packed full to capacity.

Mrs. Zonno Jammeh, the Principal of the school proudly said in the area of discipline, she was humble to report that her school remains relatively high as, according to her, during the whole academic year there was no serious case that warranted outside intervention.

At this juncture, Mrs. Jammeh said a ‘big thank you’ to Rev. John Mendy and Alex Egwin for a job well done.

“During previous speech and prize giving ceremonies, I did made mention that our children are our greatest assets and we should endeavour to make sure we guide and protect them to the best of our abilities,” she said.

She, however, lamented that the teachers still see students with pairs of trousers which are sewn below their knees and with no belt to keep in place.

“These boys come from homes,” she expressed her disappointment. Mrs. Jammeh sadly reported the death of two grade nine students whom, he said, met their untimely death. One of the deceased, she said, was a potential outstanding student.

She seized the occasion to thank President Jammeh for offering scholarships to all girls through the PEGEB fund.

She finally advised the out-going grade nines that, accomplishing ones career in the school doesn’t mean the end of ones education, it is the beginning of pursuance of a quest for more knowledge at the senior secondary level, college and the university, respectively.

The STUBS sport group for the first time stunned the audience with wondrous gymnastic performances.

This was followed by a presentation of award to deserving students who left for home beaming with joy over their success.
