Supposed Marabout Appears in Court

Ebrima Jallow, a supposed marabour, was yesterday arraigned and charged with obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 288 of the criminal code cap 10 volume III laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on or about the year 2007 and 2008 in the city of Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of D439,000 and 720 CFA from Omar S.F Suwa saying that he would help him to marry a devil woman so that he can have a child with her, which in fact he knew that such representation was false.

He vehemently denied the charge.

Meanwhile the accused was granted court bail of which he shall furnished two Gambian sureties who shall enter into recognisance in the sum of D200,000 each and the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Lamin George of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court and was adjourned until 12th January 2009.
