The University of The Gambia School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences on Tuesday, received much needed text books worth over 200,000 dalasis, from Mr. Eent Naur and Mrs. Eva Naur from Denmark, at a presentation ceremony held at the office of the Provost in RVTH, Banjul.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr Elizabeth Innis, revealed that she met Mrs. Eva Naur five years ago and she helped in sponsoring her education and after her graduation, Mrs Naur said that she wanted to continue helping others. According to Dr Elizabeth, this time round, she decided to come up with these text books when she suggested to Mrs. Naur that they need textbooks for the Medical school. “We are saying a big thanks to you and your husband”, said Dr Elizabeth.

For his part, professor, Dr Patrick Addy, acting provost urged the Medical students to voice out their need to the authorities or else people will not know the problems they   are facing. According to him, it is God’s praise that this lady and her husband decided to help the Medical school, noting that there are also other people outside who are willing to help but he stressed that the students should voice out their problems so that they will be solved.

He further appealed to the Medical students to take good care of these books and he thanked the donor for the wonderful gesture. Mr. Babucarr Ngum, the public relations officer (PRO) of RVTH said that these books are valuable books and on behalf of the chief medical director, staff and beneficiaries, he thanked the donors for the donation. Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, was Mr. Lamin Camara, faculty representative  who disclosed that few weeks ago some students approached him to help them with contacts in Ghana to try to get them some books, to help them in their exams. Actually, he said, it was very difficult to get some books and even if they are here it will be difficult to access them. Shortly, he continued, Dr Elizabeth informed him that the couple will be here to donate books to the students.

According to him, without books, it will be difficult to do academic work, because no matter how intelligent and committed you are in your academic work, the  materials supplement whatever effort you do. For her part, Eva Naur said that Dr Elizabeth and her husband are their friends and in December when they visited them, Elizabeth told her that it would be a very good idea to support all medicine students by giving books for their library, if they had the possibility of doing it, because they really need new books. “My husband and I decided then that we would donate these new books for the students”, she concluded.
