Thursday, July 02, 2009

United Youths Association, Side-By-Side, in collaboration with Universal Peace last Saturday held a day-long educative forum to discuss burning issues affecting the lives of young people in society at the Fajara Beach Hotel.

The forum brought together more than one hundred participants who also benefited from short presentations on child rights, blood donation, illegal migration, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, true family values, among others.

This is the 4th year these three youth groups have worked together with their partners from the USA.

Mr. Musa Conteh, the President of United Youth Association stated that the forum started in 2005, aimed at bringing the three youth organisations together, create unity and peace service, and discuss issues affecting young people in society.

Mr. Sanneh added that they believe that by coming together as youth groups they can be able to address burning issues affecting their life.

He said if youths are well educated the menace of literacy will be reduced, while commending Side-by-Side for supporting his association in the past years.

For his part, Beverly Berndt, the founder and adviser to Side-by-side USA dilated on the importance of such an educative beach forum for youths.

She disclosed that she brings youth from the USA to enable them learn from their Gambian counterparts.

She urged the youths to make the best use of the forum.
