At least three hundred people in Upper Saloum, last weekend, descended on President Jammeh’s rice farm at Bantanto Village in the Upper Saloum District, Central River Region North, as harvesting contines across the country.

The Governor of the region, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, commended the people of Upper Saloum for contributing their quota in ensuring house hold food security in the district. He spoke at length on the importance of farming and urged the youth to strengthen agricultural activities in the region.

Governor Touray saluted President Jammeh for initiating the back-to-the-land campaign, which he described as useful in attaining food self sufficiency in  the region. Honourable Sainey Mbye, National Assembly member for Upper Saloum, equally commended the women farmers in the region for their commitment and dedication towards farming.

He described them as the backbone of agriculture and engine of food self sufficiency. Other speakers at the farm included Chief Malick Mbye of Upper Saloum and Amie Channeh-Ceesay, ward councillor.
