The West African Football Union Championship (WAFU) for female national teams which was scheduled to kick- off on July 21st 2009, has been moved to August 15th -29 2009, according to GFA President Seedy MB Kinteh.
The 25 women squad who have been undergoing intensive training over the past two months in Bakau are expected to take part in another international friendly match before moving to the championship proper in Lagos, the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The first-ever Gambia’s female national side last month returned home from Ziguinzor after putting up an impressive 6-0 win  over their opponents.
Buba Jallow who has been appointed to take charge of the team is yet to announce his eighteen-woman squad that will represent the country in the forthcoming championship after having drawn in a group described as the toughest.
The Gambia has been pitted in group A, along side the host Nigeria, Guinea and neighbouring Senegal.
Ghana, Sierra Leone, Mali and Tanzanian make up Group B.
