Responsible students for a better nation

We, students, have a responsibility towards ourselves, our parents, teachers, our wider community and our nation.  We should respect our society’s norms and values, our school’s rules and regulations, the laws of our country and above all the Commandments of God for our own good.

Whether we become pilots, musicians, clerks, businessman, metal workers, machine operators, whatever we may aspire to become tomorrow, we should strive to be first class workers or responsible citizens and this calls for self-discipline. Therefore, as students, we need to attend school regularly, be punctual and keep our appointments at all times.  Punctuality, like attendance, is a good habit.  Good habits must be developed, so as to avoid unnecessary troubles.

School rules and regulations must be obeyed because they are there to protect us. Once then are other people around with no, we no longer can do as we please.  By doing so, we will hurt somebody. Try to picture any human activity without rules and regulations!  What games could you play without rules?  Imagine how our beautiful and peaceful country would be like without laws!  What worked our lives be worth then?  It pays to obey the law we should obey it because we feel that it is right to be law-abiding.

This feeling must become part of us. It can only become part of us, if we believe in it and live by it.  Working or studying hard at school is not enough in itself.  We must also learn to respect law and order. These two things go together and as student must not loose sight of that.

After all we are in school to learn things, so that we can become self-respecting, self-supporting persons and responsible parents in the future.  We are in school to be decent citizens and to get along with all kinds of people.  We are not in school just to make it tough for our teachers, parents and government. What will we have to show for the rest of our lives for being stubborn?

We should not always blame our parents, teachers or government.  They are human beings like us and they have faults just as we have faults.  They have their good points just as we have our good points. They are all interested in us, our careers and our problems. They want to help us succeed. That is why they exist.

So what should we do if things go wrong between then and us? When something goes wrong, we must swallow our pride and talk it over with them politely and in a friendly manner, and if we find out that it is our fault, then it will be our responsibility to correct our behaviour or change our attitude.

Being a pest doesn’t pay off in the long run.  We will eventually suffer, and then take to harmful drugs, petty stealing idle gossips, vandalism, your to name a few. To conclude, I’d like to emphasise that a student should learn to accept the consequences of his/her actions, and that he/she has rights only when in the process of exercising his/her light does not violate or infringe on the rights of other.

It is only in this way that we can all live in peace and harmony and create a conducive atmosphere for rapid socio-economic, spiritual and rural development
