Mr. Kebba Famara Touray, Production and Sales Manager, National Bee-Keepers Association, has called on Gambian youths to consider venturing into bee-keeping.

Mr.Touray made these remarks recently in an interview with this reporter.

According to him, his association was formed to support farmers, particularly youths to improve their livelihood through bee-keeping.

He emphasised that bee-keeping has both economic and medical benefits. He said honey, for instance, could be used for so many things such as candle, cream as well as for medical purposes.

He stressed that bee-keeping can generate employment for many young people in the country as it’s not too difficult to do.

He noted that bee-keeping is part of agriculture, which young people should try, in order to adopt it for their source of revenue.

He, however, mentioned the problem of marketing for their produce, the lack of mobility, capacity building for bee- keepers and packaging of products after harvesting as some of their constraints, while also calling for support.
