GFA launches ‘Operation Congo 2007’ campaign

The Gambia Football Association has launched a special fund-raising project tagged Operation Congo 2007 Campaign.

The move to launch the campaign is in connection with the football governing body’s effort to send the Gambia U-20 team to the impending African Youth Championship finals slated for January 20 to February 4 in Congo Brazzaville.
“As football governing body swims in red, it is indeed necessary to take such a bold move,” Seedy Kinteh, President of the Gambia Football Association.

Mr Kinteh added that a special account has been opened with the Guaranty Trust Bank in bid to lobby assistance from both the private and the public sectors. He said any individual who wishes to contribute towards the campaign can do so by depositing his donation to the account numbered 201105068110.

Meanwhile, The Gambia U-20 team will host in Banjul, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday, December 17, for international friendly encounter as part of preparation for the Congo finals. The Nigerian side, who will appear in Congo Championship as the defending champions, are expected to arrive in the Gambia on Saturday, December 16, before engaging the Darling Scorpions the following day, at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.

The entrance fees for Sunday’s match have been pegged at D50 for the covered pavilion and D25 for uncovered pavilion. The national football governing body has urged all sports enthusiasts to come out and cheer the match that will mark as ribbon-raiser for Congo 2007 tournament.
