The unilateral decision by the Bakau Zonal & Sports Committee to allow Katchically United to represent Bakau Zone in the GFA Third Division play-off has come under severe criticism from the football enthusiasts and some other teams in Bakau.
One such teams who felt cheated by the decision is Vidar Football Club, the Bakau league cup champions who have been preparing to take part in the preliminaries since November 2006.
Speaking to Observer Sports yesterday, Buba Minteh, head coach of Vidar FC said the committee’s decision to hand-pick a particular team without any preliminaries, came to them as utmost surprise, as according to him, Vidar have been training on daily basis since November 2006 in anticipation of the preliminaries.
“Last year, the Bakau Sports Committee hand-picked Sea View FC to represent Bakau, despite our readiness to participate in the preliminaries. Again we have been cheated in a broad day light when the same committee selected another team that did not even reach the quarter-final stage of the nawettan tourney to represent Bakau,” coach Minteh said.
He said his team spent huge amount of fund on preparation. “We spent thousands of dalasis on friendly matches in anticipation of the preliminaries. But all those expenditures have been reduced to zero,” he said.
“If a particular team was to be given a privilege to represent Bakau in the Third Division play-off, it should be Vidar FC because they are the league champions and no other team. But committee never paid heed to this rule,” he said.
