The annual Trust Bank sponsored Inter-schools Sports Competition that is organised by The Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA), is scheduled for the 14th, 15th and 16th weekend of April, 2007 at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
In an interview with Observer Sports yesterday, Mr. Momodou Njie, Secretary-General of the Gambia Secondary School Sports Association said the Greater Banjul Zone has already completed its qualifiers alongside the Basse zone- one of the provincial zones.
He said eighteen Senior Secondary Schools, including Gambia Senior Secondary School, Muslim Senior Secondary School, Bottrop Senior Secondary School and Fourteen Upper Basic Schools from the Greater Banjul Area have qualified for the April finals.
He added that Seven Upper Basic Schools will qualify from Basse zone and the same number of Upper Basic School will emerge from Mansakukung Zone. Seven Senior Secondary Schools are also expected from the Farrafenni Zone in the North Bank Region.
Last year’s Inter-schools competition was won by Bottrop Senior Secondary School in senior school category, while the Upper Basic category was clinched by Pakalinding Upper Basic School in Lower River Region.
Meanwhile, Saint Augustine’s Senior Secondary School, one of the rated schools in the competition, will not participate in this year’s championship owing to the two-year suspension levelled on them by the organisers.
