Comrade Sillah remembered

The late Ebou Madi Sillah, alias, Comrade, a reknown Gambian artist was on Thursday remembered in the form of a week-long arts exhibition of his works, at the Alliance Franco Gambienne, along Kairaba Avenue..

The event was presided over by the Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, Mrs. Agela Colley, on behalf of the Vice-President and Secretary of State for Women Affairs, Dr Isatou Njie Saidy.

In her launch statement, SoS Colley, said “ the event is a sad one as it was just over a year ago, that we lost our comrade who, in fact, would have been celebrating his 61st birthday today, but left us so suddenly. .It is just equally sad that Comrade died just as he was reaching the pinnacle of his success, having started teaching arts at the University of The Gambia”

She then went on to give a list of works done by the deceased, which included the five monuments, depicting various aspects of Gambian life, at the Old Cape Road, Stink Corner, Bakau and Burusubi/Sukuta roundabout, amongst other prestigious artistic works of him.

SoS Colley also described Comrade Sillah as a” radical revolutionary intellectual of socialist learning,” who read widely and introduced many Gambians to highly-respected Latin American writers, who has been nominated for the Nobel Prize for artistic contributions to the book, entitled “Pater MNoster”.

The occasion was attended by friends, well-wishers , students, families of the late comrade Ebou Madi Sillah.
